When you think Body Glove®, you immediately think Missouri, right?

Though Redondo Beach, CA is considered the home of Body Glove®, Missouri is where founders Bob and Bill Meistrell taught themselves to swim with a makeshift diving bell made from an old grease bucket and bicycle tire pump. A great love for the water eventually lured the brothers to Los Angeles’ South Bay, where Bob and Bill became L.A. County lifeguards, scuba divers, and vital participants in the first Los Angeles County Underwater Instructors Course.

Like modern-day Einsteins, the twins used their ingenuity to develop a suit made from an innovative insulating material called neoprene, which turned into the first practical wetsuit. Now the cold California waters were open year round for enjoyment by surfers and divers, including early giants of surfing like Greg Noll, Mickey Munoz, and many more. The neoprene suit “fit like a glove” – and Body Glove® was born.

Since then, Body Glove® has sponsored some of the top athletes in surfing and wakeboarding. The current Body Glove® surf team features Dusty Payne, Nate Yeomans, Mike Losness, Alex Gray, Cheyne Magnusson, 2009 Pro Wakeboarding Tour Champion Harley Clifford, World Champion Rusty Malinoskii, 2009 Jr. Pro Men’s Champ Bob Soven and top amateurs and regional pros around the globe – a grand tribute to a legendary heritage that began all the way back in Missouri.
